Transport Operations Planner

Manage nationwide sub-contracted haulage operations for an established importer in a fast-paced, collaborative team.

Location: Outskirts of Ipswich
Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
Salary: £37,000 - £50,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00

The Opportunity

Join a trusted timber importer near Ipswich where you will oversee nationwide distribution without the headache of fleet compliance. You will manage trusted third-party haulage relationships, negotiate rates, and ensure seamless delivery schedules for a varied customer base. This is a visible, impactful role within a supportive and established commercial team.

What you'll be doing

• Plan and schedule outbound customer deliveries using a trusted sub-contracted haulier network.
• Manage stock transfers from port facilities to the main regional holding centre.
• Build productive relationships with current transport suppliers and source new haulage partners.
• Act as the direct point of contact for customer delivery queries and scheduling updates.
• Negotiate competitive haulage rates while maintaining strict reliability and service standards.
• Maintain accurate transport records, TMS entries, and proof of delivery documentation.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience in transport planning, freight forwarding, or third-party haulage coordination.
• Strong commercial negotiation skills with transport providers and sub-contractors.
• Hands-on experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS) and POD tracking.
• Practical problem-solving ability to handle delivery exceptions and route delays calmly.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a clear focus on customer service.

The Package

• £37,000 – £40,000 per annum
• Performance-related bonus scheme
• 21 days holiday plus bank holidays
• Additional 9-day minimum Christmas shutdown
• Permanent, full-time position
