Senior Transport Operator

Lead daily transport operations and fleet efficiency with an established distribution team in Woolpit.

Salary: £40,000 - £60,000 per annum
Hours: Monday to Friday 08:00 - 17:30 (45 hours per week)

The Opportunity

Our client is looking for an experienced Senior Transport Operator to help drive a safe, profitable, and efficient distribution operation. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role suits a transport professional who thrives under pressure and knows how to optimise fleet performance. You will play a central role in delivering reliable customer service and guiding junior team members.

What you'll be doing

• Support route planning, improve fleet utilisation, and reduce empty running.
• Work closely with drivers and operators to resolve daily operational challenges and ensure full delivery compliance.
• Build strong customer relationships and develop subcontractor capacity.
• Maintain strict compliance with drivers' hours, tachograph regulations, and company policies.
• Coach junior operators and assist with ongoing improvements to systems and operational processes.

What we're looking for

• Proven experience working within transport operations.
• Essential ADR awareness.
• Comprehensive understanding of drivers' hours and tachograph regulations.
• Practical experience in route planning, fleet utilisation, and minimising empty miles.
• Strong UK geographical and road haulage market knowledge.
• Proficiency in using transport management systems.

The Package

• £40,000 - £60,000 per annum
• 23 days holiday plus 8 bank holidays
