- The Role
As a Customs Clearance Clerk, you’ll be responsible for managing customs entries and supporting the end-to-end clearance process to ensure goods move smoothly and compliantly. You’ll work closely with internal teams, customers, and external partners to deliver a reliable, high-quality service.
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience in customs clearance (freight forwarding or logistics environment)
- Strong understanding of import/export procedures and customs documentation
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced setting
- Confident using internal systems (customs software/TMS) and Microsoft Office
- Strong communication skills and a proactive, solutions-focused approach
- Local knowledge of UK customs processes is essential
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and submit customs declarations/entries (import and export) accurately and on time
- Check documentation for compliance (commercial invoices, packing lists, COO, etc.)
- Ensure correct commodity codes, customs procedure codes, and valuations are applied
- Liaise with HMRC, customers, hauliers, shipping lines, and internal operations teams
- Monitor clearance progress and resolve delays or queries quickly and professionally
- Maintain compliance with customs regulations and internal procedures
- Keep accurate records and update internal systems with clearance activity
- Provide clear updates to customers and colleagues throughout the process
