Intermodal customer development specialist

Full time, permanent

 

The primary objective of the Intermodal Customer Development Specialist (ICDS) is to support the UK Intermodal Customer Development Manager (CDM) in maximising revenue and growth for MSC's line haulage services in the UK (Import and Export). This role will serve as a central point of coordination across various departments within MSC to drive strategic growth, customer retention, and market expansion in the intermodal sector. By enhancing internal collaboration, securing new business, and optimising existing commercial / sales processes, the ICDS will contribute significantly to achieving MSCs targets.

 

How you will help us and what you can expect

 

  • Assist the UK Intermodal CDM in achieving Import and Export LOH target %
  • Targeting of regular MOH customers, working alongside Trade, Sales and Intermodal to price competitively and convert to LOH
  • Working closely with manifest call out team by reviewing intermodal online tariff requests
  • Regularly review MOH/LOH split by Market sector, by customer, by trade and by equipment
  • Follow up with customers after requesting intermodal pricing
  • Work alongside Trade teams and POL agents to promote UK offering and through bill of lading advantages
  • Coordination of new business and sales pipelines across the customer sectors with clear ownership
  • Review customer portfolios for identification, consulting and developing value propositions
  • Supporting with discussions and reporting opportunities to GVA management
  • Close partnership with Trade team to fully capitalise on the Intermodal Cross Sales project
  • Update and advise Trade, Sales and Customer Service teams on the haulage market (current and future)
  • Client retention & visits ensuring pre and post sales engagement and commitment from clients
  • Ensure regular focus on intermodal product from Marketing supporting with the creation of Marketing literature
  • Leading customer meetings both in person and virtually
  • Extensive Customer communication via Telephone/Teams and Email
  • Follow up on customer ‘favourspushing for further volume, assessing holiday season and peak periods
  • Local event attendance
  • Set weekly KPIs directly linked to commercial performance management
  • Onboarding and follow up on customer experience
  • Drive forward the intermodal app, ensuring regular communication is being shared with IT on what is suitable for the current market
  • Coordination and preparation of internal meetings
  • Monitoring customer experience and providing internal departments feedback

 

Skills and experience you’ll bring to us

 

  • Proven awareness and understanding of UK business indicators and sector trends.
  • Drive to pro-actively identify and secure new business
  • Proven success in building relationships (internally and externally)
  • Communicator and sound negotiator at all levels and can track and "hunt" potential new business
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills with high level of computer analysis
  • A positive attitude to solving business issues, working closely and collaborating with departments across the whole business
  • A good track record in negotiating up to Board level would be beneficial
  • A focused, proactive and self-motivated person with the ability to manage deadlines
  • Good numeracy, literacy, and IT skills
  • Microsoft programme skills (to include Excel and PowerPoint) would be beneficial
