Sector-Specific Interview Prep: Felixstowe & Suffolk Logistics
Tailor your interview preparation to specific sectors within Felixstowe's logistics, shipping, and transport industries for better results.
Preparing for an interview goes beyond general advice. In the Felixstowe and Suffolk logistics sector, understanding the nuances of each specialism can really make you stand out. This month, we'll look at how to tailor your interview approach based on the role and industry.
Freight Forwarding Interviews
If you're interviewing for a freight forwarding role, expect questions about incoterms, customs procedures, and multimodal transport. Companies will want to know your experience with different shipping routes, documentation (like bills of lading), and problem-solving skills when delays or issues arise. You should be ready to discuss specific freight software you've used and your understanding of global supply chains. We currently have 17 live freight forwarding roles, with a median advertised salary of £33,500 across 21 roles.
Warehouse & Transport Sector Interviews
For warehousing positions, safety protocols, inventory management systems (WMS), and efficient picking/packing methods are key. Show your understanding of stock rotation (FIFO/LIFO) and operational efficiency. If you're a Forklift Counterbalance Driver or Warehouse VNA Driver, be ready to discuss your licenses, safety record, and experience with different machinery. Transport roles, whether for an HGV Class 1 Driver or a Transport Planner, will focus on route optimisation, compliance with driving regulations, vehicle maintenance checks, and time management. Current live vacancies include 10 for warehousing and 5 for transport. Median advertised salaries are £32,500 (15 warehousing roles) and £42,500 (16 transport roles).
Driving & Shipping Roles
Driving interviews often assess your practical experience, knowledge of road safety, hours regulations, and vehicle checks. Be prepared to talk about your driving history, any specialist vehicle experience (like HGV Class 1 Trailer Fitter roles), and how you handle challenging situations on the road. For shipping roles, particularly around Felixstowe Port, knowledge of port operations, vessel scheduling, and container management is crucial. Discuss your understanding of international shipping regulations and any experience with port systems. We have 3 live driving roles and 2 shipping roles. Median advertised salaries are £46,250 (10 driving roles) and £30,000 (3 shipping roles).
